 Private Pilot Course:

The private pilot course will begin June 18th and run through November 1st.  Please print and fill out the application and mail it to me no later than May 10th. If we need more information we will invite you for an interview during the last two weeks of May and will make selections by June 9th. You must be seventeen by Nov. 1st 2009.

Students work toward a private pilots license and earn two high school credits as well as Spokane Falls Community College credit. Our instructors are Idaho State certified teachers, grades 6-12, in math, science and vocational airways science as well as US Government certified flight insturctors. You will attend math and science classes daily reinforcing concepts studied in high school, taught in the context of aerodynamics, navigation, meterology and the physics of weight & balance; you will then explore theses concepts in flight.

This is a fun and fast paced class. All of our students have said it was the best summer experience they have had. You will be fully immersed in class and flight training during the first six weeks attending an academic class Monday through Thursday 9-12:00 to prepare you for the FAA Private Pilot written test and fly three times a week. After the written test you will continue flight training flying three to four times a week through September. In October if you have completed all your training successfully you will begin preparing for the Private Pilot fight test and complete the program by November 1st.

Students learn about careers in the aviation industry and meet pilots in the military, airlines and business who are willing to work with them as mentors.  This class is for students interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a career pilot.

Your flight training will include about fifty hours of flying, 25-30 hours with an instructor and the balance solo. You will learn:

1. Flying in good weather conditions as well as by sole reference to the instruments
2. Analyzing weather and planning cross-country flights
3. Flying cross-country using a combination of navigation techniques
4. Handling a wide variety of emergency procedures.
5. Taking off and landing from short and soft field runways
6. Reading aviation charts
7. Understanding and interacting with National Airspace System
8. Assessing airworthiness and maintenance requirements for aircraft

A private pilot’s license allows you to fly in good weather conditions and take passengers.

Private Pilot Phase One
This class is for students that are sixteen years old but won't turn seventeen prior to October 31st. Students attend our private pilot ground school, take the FAA Private Pilot written exam and fly twenty hours in our Diamond trainer. Call us at 208-610-0868 to sign up!

Private Pilot Phase Two
Phase one students complete the private pilot curriculum attend ground school, fly the Diamond trainer and work toward a private pilot's license.Call us at 208-610-0868 to sign up!

Advanced Flight Training

Graduates from the private pilot course take mountain flying, instrument and commercial ground school continuing their study of math and science in the context of aerodymics, navigation, meterology and the physics of weight & balance; you will then explore these concepts in flight and fly for twenty hours in the Diamond learning instrument and mountain flying skills. Those interested can take an independent study course and complete the instrument rating.

Two week summer flight intensive for boarding students

We offer a two week intensive for students outside the area interested in flight training. Students take math and science classes daily in the context of the context of aerodymics, navigation, meterology and the physics of weight & balance; you will then explore these concepts in flight flying once a day in the Diamond Eclipse, log up to ten hours in a simulator and learn to fly radio controlled models. We offer room and board and a wide variety of land and water sports. Sandpoint is in northern Idaho, surrounded by mountains and on the edge of Lake Pend Orielle. For more information about Sandpoint visit www.sandpoint.com. Call us at 208-610-0868 to sign up!

One week introductory flight  summer course

This course is for students 12-16 years old interested in flight training. Students join our ground school Monday - Thursday studying aerodynamics, navigation, meteorology and the physics of weight & balance; they will then explore these concepts in flight flying five days in the Diamond Eclipse with a certified flight instructor. Students may join our radio control model club during their week. This class is only for local students. Call us at 610-0868 to sign up!

 Introduction to Aerodynamics

Students study the physics and math of flight, learn about aircraft design and construction as well as about careers in the aerospace industry. Students work in teams designing, building and learning to fly radio controlled models. We use computer simulation to study the effects of wing design in virtual wind tunnels as well as a way to learn to fly and modify radio-controlled models. We have a team of retired aeronautical engineers that work with students as consultants as well as graduates from past classes that serve as flight instructors.

This is a fun and fast paced class for students interested in modeling and learning about careers as  pilots and engineers. The skills you learn here will make learning to fly a full sized airplane much easier and serve as a starting point for a career in aeronautical engineering. Students earn one high school aviation careers credit from Scholarship Flight Training for this course This course is open to students in grades 9-12. Visit our photo album, and class pictures, to see what other classes have been like.

Introduction to Technology

Students 14-16 are introduced to a variety of technologies and learn associated skills. Students learn how to build and program robots and design, build, and rebuild small gas, electric, heat and steam engines which they use in a variety of transportation platforms they design and build using Auto-Cad and welding skills. Students learn to create multi-media presentations, television commercials and web sites using a variety of software applications.

Film and Broadcasting

This class introduces students to video production, editing and broadcasting. Students learn to produce short films and advertisements using video camcorders and video editing software. Their work is broadcasted on a local cable televsion network which they manage. Students also film school sporting events which are uploaded live to the internet.
